Enhancing your smile is the main goal of your dentists in Mentor!
Dental Cleanings
A routine dental cleaning from your dentist is the best way to keep your oral hygiene in top shape. On top of your twice daily brushing and flossing, dental check-ups will only benefit your teeth just as much! Your professional cleaning will remove mineralized tartar and plaque that even at-home care may not be able to clean.
With their professional cleaning instruments, the process includes tooth scaling and polishing. The tooth scaling is when the hygienist removes the harmful plaque and bacteria off of the surface of your teeth and other hard to reach places, while the polishing is to remove anything left that may be lingering.
Limited & Comprehensive Exams
A limited dental exam focuses solely on one issue that a patient has addressed and wants taken care of. This is usually during a dental emergency. This may also require x-rays so your dentist is able to pinpoint the issue and give the patient further information.
A comprehensive dental exam doesn’t necessarily have one main focus, but several. Your dentist will look into your teeth, gums, jaw, and other focus areas. This occurs when a patient is new so your dentist is able to have on record any information they may need in the future.
Technologically Advanced Digital X-Rays
There are two main types of digital x-rays: intraoral and extraoral. Intraoral x-rays are more common for your appointments to check for cavities, look at the root of each tooth to make sure they’re healthy, as well as monitor any other possible issue in your teeth and jaw area. Extraoral x-rays focus on the jaw and skull and do not detect everything that intraoral x-rays do. These x-rays are used to locate issues like TMJ disease, which directly affects your jaw, and monitor the other bones around this area.
